|Bid Description:||MA Department of Conservation and Recreation: Analysis of Wildlife Fecal Samples for Pathogens. The Department of Conservation and Recreation is seeking a vendor for the analysis of fecal samples collected from various wildlife species (primarily beaver and muskrat) for the presence of certain pathogens. Specifically, Giardia spp. and Cryptosporidium spp. will be tested for, in addition to other pathogens. As part of a regular wildlife program related to water quality protection, populations of beaver and muskrat are routinely removed from certain critical areas of the watershed. After removal, fecal samples are collected from these animals and preserved in a fresh state. In order to assess levels of pathogens in these wildlife populations, samples need to be analyzed for the presence of certain pathogens, including Giardia and Cryptosporidium. On average, 15-25 samples are collected per calendar year. In addition, special projects may happen where large numbers of fecal samples are collected (several hundred). These samples would need to be tested for one or several pathogens, including, but not limited to, Giardia, Cryptosporidium, Salmonella, or E. coli.|
